Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has stressed that high ranking police officers must avoid political influence, maintain trust and be worthy role models to fellow police officers.
Riyaz made the statement regarding high ranking police officers at a time when former Head of Police Intelligence Mohamed Hameed has been arrested and is being investigated for allegedly leaking confidential information for political purposes.
Speaking during a meeting held to obtain the views of the police officers in relation to their duties, Commissioner further stressed that the top officers of the police must act as examples to their subordinates.
Detailing his vision of the Police institution, Riyaz urged the officers to carry out their duties without prejudice and discrimination.
In addition to the officers, Riyaz also met with the Heads of the Criminal Investigation Department. He urged the department to expedite all investigations of criminal cases.
