President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik last night indicated of his intention to contest in the presidential elections scheduled for next year.
In response to a question during a program on DhiTV last night, President Waheed who was the running mate of former President Mohamed Nasheed during the last presidential polls in 2008 said that "I'm ready to do everything I can for the leadership of 2013."
"There will be a way for that. The way would be shown by Almighty Allah. So I'm ready for that," President said.
When asked whether he would consider joining another party or seek the presidential ticket from another party, President Waheed stressed that "I haven't ruled out any possibility" and "all possibilities are open."
"I will opt for the best thing for the nation," he added.
As President Waheed has indicated his intention to contest for the presidency in 2013, rumors are rife that he would join former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Leaders of some parties have publicly proclaimed that it is in the best interest of the nation to nominate President Waheed from the coalition government as the presidential candidate for 2013.
