Four Police, two Military officers arrested for robbing foreign expatriates: Police

Police have revealed that some police and military officers have been arrested for stealing money from a group of foreign expatriates.

Police added that two military officers, four police officers and two Bangladeshi national have been taken into custody, for the robbery around 5.30 in the morning of June 8. The search for three others in relation to the crime was underway, Police said without disclosing further details.

The people have been arrested during a joint operation with the military after various complaints have been received that a group was entering lodgings of foreign expatriates and forcibly taking away money and other expensive items, Police detailed.

Police revealed that the suspects have confessed that they had stolen money and other valuables from foreign workers on various occasions.

Haveeru has learned that one of the officers arrested is a member of the Police investigation team while the other is an officer of Police special operations.

Police detailed that as its own officers were involved in the crime, special precedence had been given to expedite the investigation.

Two police officer had been sacked earlier for stealing money and mobile phones from some foreign expatriates. Criminal Court had also sentenced one of the officers for nine months in prison for committing a crime while in uniform of a member of the security forces.
