Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen today arrived in Maldives to spend his New Year holidays.

Allen arrived at Gan International Airport around 7am in a private jet.

An airport official confirmed Allen's arrival but said his jet has departed from the Maldives.

After arriving in Addu, Allen flew to his luxury yacht "Octopus", which is anchored outside the Gan island, in a helicopter. The yacht came to the Maldives yesterday.

The 414-foot (126m) megayacht, which is currently the world's 12th largest superyacht, was seen near Bandos Island Resort about a month ago.

Haveeru learned from reliable sources that Allen would travel in the yacht to a resort in Alif Dhaal atoll. He will depart from Alif Dhaal atoll Maamigili airport in a private jet.

With an estimated wealth of US$13 billion as of 2011, Allen is currently the 57th richest person in the world.
