Deen sworn in as Vice President of Maldives

Mohamed 'Deen' Waheedhudheen who was nominated as vice-President has taken the oath of office after the Parliament had granted approval for his nomination earlier today.

Owner of Bandos Island Resort, Deen was sworn in at the parliament secretariat. President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid and Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain were present at the ceremony.

Deen was approved by a unanimous vote by the 45 legislators present at the session today. This is the first time a vice-President had been approved by the Parliament.

All the nominated cabinet ministers were also approved by a unanimous vote in today’s session.

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) boycotted today’s session, however MDP Parliamentary group member and Fuvahmulah-mid constituency MP Shifag ‘Histo’ Mufeed was present and voted to approve the ministers and Vice President.
