A protest around the Christopher Columbus statue in Chicago’s Grant Park turned violent Friday night time, as the crowd started out hurling objects at law enforcement officers who had been guarding the statue, in accordance to stories.
As circumstances worsened, dozens of law enforcement officers arrived from throughout the town, FOX 32 of Chicago described.
A complete of 18 law enforcement officers were being wounded at the scene, the report mentioned. Some demanded therapy at hospitals.
At minimum a dozen rioters ended up taken into custody, FOX 32 noted.
At minimum four civilians were being taken to hospitals but their health care problems were unfamiliar, Chicago’s WGN-Television set reported.
One particular wounded girl was noticed with a bandaged head, staying well prepared for transportation to a clinic, WBBM’s Charlie De Mar claimed.
The protest started at the park’s Buckingham Fountain, then the crowd moved to the Columbus statue, with some members throwing a rope about it – in an obvious endeavor to topple it, the Chicago Tribune and WGN noted.
Rioters had been read chanting, “Columbus was a murderer! Columbus was a thief!” the newspaper claimed.
As objects flew in the air toward law enforcement, some officers ended up witnessed hitting some members of the crowd with batons, the Tribune noted.
