Dr. Anthony Fauci to throw first pitch at Opening Day game between Washington Nationals and New York Yankees

The Washington Nationals said Monday that Dr. Anthony Fauci — the nation’s main infectious condition expert and self-described enthusiast of the reigning Environment Series champs — will toss out the Opening Day pitch when the team hosts the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

“Dr. Fauci has been a correct champion for our region during the COVID-19 pandemic and during his distinguished vocation, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 time and protect our Planet Series Championship title,” the Nationals tweeted.

The Big League Baseball year has been extended delayed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The league’s spring teaching was shelved in March mainly because of the outbreak, but groups resumed their preparations this thirty day period. The Nationals-Yankees matchup will kick off Thursday at 7:08 p.m. ET.

There will be no fans at Opening Working day at Nationals Park and it will be adopted by a match between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, according to CBS Athletics. The MLB season has been shortened to 60 online games.

Fauci, who has been a foremost member of the White Home Coronavirus Undertaking Pressure, was noticed in June putting on a Nationals-themed confront mask through testimony on Capitol Hill.
